The Forever War- Joe Haldeman

The Forever War is one of those really interesting stories because of a driving concept in its plot. There is a war spanning across galaxies between Earth and an unknown alien race. The soldiers use a system with the same idea in mind as cryosleep, where you descend into a sort of stasis until you reach your destination. Now because of this, decades, up to centuries, can go by and it seems only a few years to the soldiers. Therefore, in a sense, the war never ends because despite Earth coming to peace with the alien race wars are still being raged across hundreds of galaxies by soldiers from both sides who are unaware of the change.

As you read along you experience the idea of showing up home, on Earth, and finding out how much has changed. Your children are older than you, new technologies, ships, buildings, etc. The main character has an odd romance, to say the least, with a girl he meets at his training and first mission. The book has sexual scenes and references but not explicitly; the romance seems more like friends with benefits who decided they actually liked each other.

A very interesting book with a smooth writing style. Good for sci-fi and odd romance readers. I wonder what that says about me then… Anyways…
