Ender’s Game – Orson Scott Card

I first learned of Ender’s Game at my high school as a library assistant. It was one of the “textbooks” that students could choose to read and write about. I avoided it for years just because it was at the high school, I assumed it would be overly politically correct. But I found it again at a regional public library book sale, where you could fill a paper bag for five dollars, and decided to give it a try.

It was pleasantly low on politically correct content. The story is unique and interesting, almost totally centered around Ender. What makes the story thrilling is how Ender handles and reacts to the challenges the military throws at him. Challenges in the form of “games” to teach military tactics. So, the book is far more emotionally and character driven than action or scenic.

The main character, Ender, is a genius above others. The story is about him as a genius reaching to levels no one else has (not to say he doesn’t hurt for it). If you are not into that kind of thing, not the read for you.
