Fire and Ice – J.A. Jance

This book was discovered by scrolling through a bookshelf at work to find something to read while I waited for the technician I was assigned to accompany needed doors unlocked. Previously I had decided mystery murder books (homicide and detectives) were kind of ridiculous and never reading one again would be fine. Alas, the things boredom can lead to.

Basically, a police department is investigating a string of homicides committed in a pattern. They work to uncover who knew who and what they know, applied some forensic magic, and voila, they find it was a drug cartel killing prostitutes they brought to America because they wanted to get free, surprise surprise. Even a little bit of action, when one of the deceased female’s family members, who is a cop, decides to go on his own and kill the man responsible. Really, this is why I stopped reading them, so bloody corny (ay?).
