During my winter break, I read a book called “His Majesty’s Dragon,” by Naomi Novik. It is a nine-book series, and after reading book 1, I bought books 2 and 3. They are well written, and after researching I found it ends happily, so I’m planning on getting the next couple of books.
The books do a fairly good representation of the social aspect of the era and incorporate dragons into the scene well. They have not overpowered killing machines that single-handedly decide battles, they must work with the navy and avoid cannons and too much rifle fire. There are also considerations of feeding, transporting, and housing them.
A nice thing about the series is the lack of sexual content and evil beings. It definitely has some push for women in traditionally men’s roles, which is possible given the presented circumstances.
12/27/2023 Update:
Well I’m still reading the series. Just yesterday I finished book seven, Crucible of Gold, and now need to finish the series with books eight and nine. Eight is already in transit at the library, so that’s cool.
