A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J. Maas

Again, I really don’t know where to begin talking about the romance of the story. To avoid waiting, I listened to the audiobook version on youtube by a young lady who narrated and added songs or ambiance to match the reading. The addition of music was simply captivating. Even now I’m listening to all of the songs she used on repeat because they have so much more meaning to me now.

Plot-wise, it does have a certain similarity to The Beauty and the Beast progression, as my mom told me critics had said. But it is very different as a whole due to circumstances, the “beast” was a handsome Fae and she was a hunter who killed his friend.

The lightness placed on sexuality is bothersome, especially at the end, but it doesn’t ruin the book. Because of that, and it is completely detached from reality as a whole, I’m not going to read more in the series. It seems a lot changes in the next books, but reading the first is fine for a stand-alone, there isn’t some large hook to the next book.
