Pompeii – Robert Harris

My mom recommended this book to me because she thought I’d enjoy the Roman engineering theme and the progression of the romantic side of the story. The library did not have the book available as a hardcopy or kindle version, so I went with the audiobook version. Which so far has still been very enjoyable for driving and helping me fall to sleep.

The main character is an “Aquarius,” or engineer of the aqueducts of Rome. It was interesting to read about the engineering of the aqueducts. A few times the character refers to their size and geometry, and to the making of concrete during that time. I plan to recommend this to one of my engineering friends, who likewise had recommended the The Martian to me for its interesting dive into engineering.
